Take Me Back There to Cinque Terre

There are some places in the world that don’t seem real. Most people visit three cities in Italy…Rome, Florence, and Venice. But those with more time will hopefully also visit these Five Lands (literally what Cinque Terre means).

These five fishing towns lie along the northwestern edge of Italy on the Mediterranean Sea, and seem like something out of a fairy tail book. They are truly unlike any other place I’ve ever visited. Since cars cannot reach these small towns, they are only accessible by train or boat. But they are very popular tourist destinations, as they well should be.

Many people place time at Cinque Terre in the middle of a longer Italian vacation, allowing for some rest and relaxation on the beach (along with some beautiful scenery, casual hiking between the towns through private vineyards, and some wine and pesto tastings in local stores) to break up the whirlwind sightseeing in the major Italian cities.

Some of the hiking trails are sometimes closed due to weather, and there is one path that is paved between two of the five towns, allowing people to stroll leisurely or those in wheelchairs or with strollers to enjoy the views.
