Staring Down Stairs for a New Perspective

I'm mesmerized by travel. My motto is to do as much as you can, whenever and wherever you have the opportunity to do it.

And I don't mean that only in the largest sense of traveling to far-away places. I mean it even once you're there. I, myself, love to climb towers in old towns in Europe. Whether it's a church tower, or a clock tower, or any other tower in town, it offers the best vantage point (and photo opportunity) of your location. Sometimes, the only way up is to climb hundreds of steps. And I'm lucky enough to still be healthy enough to do so, so I do it.

Sure, at the top, the view is often spectacular. And that makes the climb worth it. But sometimes, other great things happen when you climb all those steps, as this photo shows. Climbing the old Town Hall Tower in Kraków, Poland, looking down the inner staircase opening, the view was also a unique geometric pattern that looked like modern artwork.

I won't lie, I didn't stare down this shaft for long, since I didn't want to get scared of just how long a drop it was. But I definitely snapped a number of pictures, was I glad thought of this abstract view during my climb, and admire this photo as if it were an artistic masterpiece of patterns and mathematics.
