Following Frodo’s Journey Through the Misty Mountains

Most people want to travel to New Zealand because of their love for Lord of the Rings and all the scenery that movie franchise shows off on the big (or little) screen. But New Zealand is beautiful in reality, not just in fictional movies that are filmed there. However, it is true that some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring locations of New Zealand were used in Peter Jackson’s franchise.

On a cloudy day in Queenstown, when other activities may be cancelled due to the weather, another great opportunity is to join a horseback riding adventure. One of them is a two-hour trek around an area used for the Misty Mountains and the location of Isengard in the Lord of the Rings movies. But even if you are not a fan (or not a rabid fan) of the movies, you would be hard pressed not to envision yourself in a distant world (indeed New Zealand is distant to many of us due to its location) or past time period as you venture on horseback through the New Zealand wilderness.

So you may pretend to be Frodo on his journey through Middle Earth, or an explorer from the past finding new lands, or a cowboy ready to wrangle up his herds, or anything else. Because you can use your imagination as you take in the amazingly beautiful landscapes, or you can take in reality because it is all a real place you can explore.
