On my first safari, once we had our first leopard sighting we saw leopards often. After some days of seeing a carcass in a tree we knew there was a leopard in the area—they like to drag their kills into trees to keep other animals from being able to steal it away. Leopards have amazing strength and can pull up a large kill into the higher branches of a tree. That’s what this one had just done after suffocating an impala (which will be a future post!).
We drove close to the tree and watched the leopard as it was obviously staring at something else off in the distance. Sometimes, it would lie down on the branch as if it were taking a nap, looking just like a pet cat. It didn’t even look our way or care that we were there. I wonder if it heard all of our cameras clicking away, or our whispers of awe as we sat so close to such an amazing, beautiful animal.
