A Rapid-ly Changing Adventure

Have you ever signed up for something you weren't quite sure you could handle? Sometimes, we just need to believe in ourselves and trust that others will show us what's needed—otherwise we may miss out on some of the greatest and most unique experiences in life.

The Pacuare River in Costa Rica is considered one of the top 10 white water rafting rivers in the world. In fact, white water rafting championships have been held on that river, making it a famous destination for tourists to experience if they feel up to it. The Pacuare River has rapids from Level 1 to Level 4, which could easily make people doubt their decision to sign up for a rafting tour if they know that Level 5 is the maximum, most dangerous type of rapids.

But tours wouldn't be offered if they weren't safe, and fear of missing out on one of the most unique and top experiences to have in Costa Rica, and indeed in the world, is enough to push people to overcome their fears.

Each raft holds 6 people plus the rafting guide—an extremely experienced teacher who guides the group through various actions depending on the situation. The rafting guide will shout commands of "forward," "backwards," "get down," and "stop" to tell brave adventurers when to paddle, when to brace, and when to just have fun.

This 4-hour experience is truly amazing and unforgettable. The adrenaline (it was never terrifying or too much for a novice to handle), scenery, laughter, and excitement can often be the highlight of a trip to Costa Rica. Many tours also provide the opportunity to purchase photos taken from incredible vantage points along the river's many miles that are traveled, including many action shots of your group conquering the mighty rapids.

It can be a lesson of overcoming fears, of experiencing something you don't often get the chance to experience, of meeting new adventurers, of hearing tales of the locals who live and work along the river, and of being able to come back home and telling family and friends how you survived the famous Pacuare River.
