Costa Rica isn’t a large country, but there are so many different kinds of places to explore. There are rain forests, there are volcanos, there are national parks, there are cities, and there are beaches on both sides of the country—on the Caribbean Sea and on the Pacific Ocean.
At the tail end (or during any part) of a full trip through Costa Rica, be sure to have some relaxation time. Manuel Antonio, a popular destination on the Pacific coast of the country, is the perfect mix of beach relaxation, fun and nightlife on the town’s main strip along the beach, and spotting sloths and other wildlife in Manuel Antonio National Park.
Unlike the rainforests and beach areas on the Caribbean side—such as in Tortuguero National Park—which can require a four-hour bus ride and then a 90-min boat ride to reach, Manuel Antonio is a much shorter drive from San Jose. And while the remoteness and wonder of Tortuguero National Park should not be missed, something else that Manuel Antonio offers are the magical sunsets because of its location facing west over the Pacific Ocean.
Many tourists and locals gather on the beach to take in the sunset. And you never know when the conversation you strike up with the person sitting next to you on the beach will lead to a friendship that spans countries and even continents.
